    Abstract

Our plan aims to prepare Xujiahui for a central role in the future Shanghai by the creation of new places with new programs establishing the district as a unique and memorable urban experience. The design seeks to diversify and enrich the fabric of the area while emphasizing the fluid functioning of every area within the sub-district. The project proposes new programs and improvements such as A NEW CULTURAL NETWORK (urban nodes including 9 new museums), BOULEVARDS (converting main roads into wider, green arteries), STREETS (breaking down the superblocks into smaller blocks), PEDESTRIAN SPACES (structured as a clear network of spaces that will function as nodes), FABRIC (through continuity of built form and the framing of streets and urban spaces essential for the creation of urban places), GREEN AND SUSTAINABLE SPACES (beautifying the city by incorporating different types and scales of green as an intrinsic part of the fabric and not simply left over spaces) and MOVEMENT SYSTEMS (including roads, mass transit, parking and shuttle services, bicycles, and pedestrian circulation).
